A toy car racing party game for up to 8 players online, or 16 on a TV with phones as the controllers.
Everyone races round a kid's bedroom: along the road on the play rug, over masking tape on the floorboards, up a ramp of books onto the desk, and off a clipboard jump back down.
There is one screen for everybody, and it follows the car in the lead. Fall behind until you drop off the edge of the screen and you're out of the heat. The last car on screen wins it.
Heats are short. When one ends, everybody lines up again at the winner's spot, and whoever went out first starts at the front. First to three heats wins the race.
Hold DRIFT through a corner to slide round it. Hold it long enough and a boost charges: let go and you shoot ahead. If a heat goes on too long, a line closes in from the back of the screen, and behind it is out too.
Fewer than four of you? Bots fill the empty spots, unless you turn them off.
How to play Skidabout
CONTROLS
Phone: push the stick the way you want to go. Hold DRIFT through corners, let go for a boost.
Desktop: the arrows or WASD steer the way you want to go. Hold Shift to drift.
TV: the phone is your controller, with the same stick and DRIFT.
ONE SCREEN
Everybody sees the same screen, and it follows the car in the lead. A car that drops off its edge is out of the heat.
DRIFT
Hold DRIFT at speed while turning and the car slides round the corner. The longer you slide, the bigger the boost when you let go: blue sparks for a small one, orange for a big one.
THE CLOSING LINE
When a heat goes on, a line sweeps in from the back of the screen. Behind the line is out.
HEATS
The last car on screen wins the heat. Everybody else lines up again at the winner's spot for the next one, and whoever went out first starts at the front.
WINNING
First to three heats wins the race.
